      Forest-bathing in-person in Northern Arizona Time 12:10 PM Location 914 N San Francisco St. Flagstaff, AZ 86001 The Japanese practice of shinrin yoku, or Forest Bathing, is good for both physical and mental wellbeing. It is proven to reduce stress hormone production, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness. Let's support one another by introducing a healthy lifestyle choice to our Thursdays and practice forest bathing by walking together from 12 noon - 1 pm in gorgeous Flagstaff, AZ. We will meet in the parking lot of Cancer Support Community Northern Arizona and walk the beautiful downtown residential area. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring walking poles, hat, and water. Be sure to apply sunscreen and dress appropriately for the day's weather. You are welcome to bring a friend and leash-trained dogs are always welcome. Throughout November and December Forest Bathing could become Expressive Arts if the weather is not conducive to walking. Both start at noon at CSCAZ northern Arizona, 914 N. San Francisco Street.       Therapeutic Writing Time 2:00 PM Location Virtual

      Grab some lined paper and a pen – that’s all you need! Writing images from one’s memory and imagination can be a healing act. According to studies, some individuals may benefit from participating in expressive writing as part of their supportive cancer treatment. The writing act can be a form of healing for patients dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Sue has been promoting journal writing as a tool for personal growth and self-care for many years. She prefers the term “therapeutic writing” believing It better explains the benefits inherent in its use. Research supports the effectiveness of writing to reduce hypertension and increase immune system functioning as well as many other benefits.

      Taught by Sue Meyn, M C. She has presented to many organizations in Phoenix and now Flagstaff, and was a facilitator for groups at Cancer Support Community Arizona for seventeen years.

      This program is being offered to you both in-person at our Flagstaff campus and via Zoom, which is a virtual/online platform that is FREE and accessible with any smartphone, laptop, desktop, or tablet.       Veterans Cancer Support Group Time 4:00 PM Location Other Offsite Location

      Meet other veterans impacted by cancer who understand the obstacles of navigating a cancer diagnosis.

      This weekly veterans cancer support group is open to all military veterans (active or discharged/retired) diagnosed with cancer and is led by licensed clinical social worker, Jessica Wells.

      Jessica is a Licensed Clinical Oncology Social Worker who graduated from Arizona State University with a Masters Degree in Social Work in 2011.  Jessica also received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from Arizona State University.

      She has 12 years of experience in the following sectors: child welfare, general pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, pediatric hematology/oncology, and the acute mental health/behavioral healthcare setting.

      Jessica’s passion for working with patients and families whose lives have been affected by cancer is fueled by her own personal cancer journey.  She is a firm believer in “meeting the patient where they are at while providing patient-centered care.”

      Newcomer Orientation EVENING VIRTUAL Time 6:00 PM Location Main Campus

      Welcome to Cancer Support Community Arizona! The Newcomer Orientation Meeting is open to anyone impacted by cancer, including cancer patients, their loved ones and caregivers. This orientation will be conducted live online and will include information about our free programs and classes, workshops, and events. During this virtual meeting, we will discuss how to get started with many of the programs available to you and your family!
